Paddlesports – Canoeing, Kayaking & SUP
Many of our members enjoy the excellent paddling that can be had from Wivenhoe by kayak, canoe and stand up paddleboard (SUP). The upper reaches of the Colne are a wonderful area for paddlesports – Alresford Creek, Whitehouse Beach, the Roman River and up to Colchester Hythe; all within easy reach of the club.
The club’s two slipways and pontoon offer lengthy and easy access to the water. The club has Canadian canoes available for members to use, and the club offers storage facilities, subject to availability, for members with their own craft. There is a dedicated paddling Whatsapp group for members to connect with each other, and the club organises a series of social paddles throughout the year to support and encourage members to get afloat.
On 1st May 2020, members of the dissolved Wivenhoe Canoe and Kayak Club joined Wivenhoe Sailing Club. WCKC was formed in 2013 bringing members together for social paddling events, monthly pub socials and kayaking trips as well as campaigning for better access to the river. WSC welcomed these members and their ongoing contributions to the expanding paddling section within the club.
At the same time, the Wivenhoe Rivercare Group became based at WSC and continues to encourage prevention and removal of litter from the river to improve the environment for our local wildlife.
If you are interested in paddling, find out more about WSC membership and check out our Wivenhoe Paddlesports Facebook page.
